The play is a fascinating attempt to put modern physics onto the stage - string theory, multiverse theory... science fiction or fact? What happens if every time we make a decision, we create a new but parallel universe? Billions of universes side by side where we, but not we exactly, live coincidental lives, each a consequence of the multitudes of choices we have made. People we meet and fall in love with/don't fall in love with/marry/don't marry/ divorce/get pregnant, etc.... on and on. Biology and Physics exist simultaneously!

Constellations examines the relationship between two characters, and explores the multiple possibilities of that relationship as determined by the endless decisions they might make over the course of their intersecting lives... a study that seems in some way chaotic and yet is decidedly human in its study of the reality of "now."

The challenge for the actors is to keep every scene, however brief, grounded in the believe-ability of the moment, yet allowing for the infinitesimal differences every deviation/decision makes in the course of our lives. The people in each scene, and their relationship, are the same yet different every time we shift... from one "universe" to the next. The play sounds ridiculously technical (Theoretical Physics), but is grounded in the connection (Biology? Spirituality?) between the two characters. It is infinite, and finite all at the same time. Every member of the audience will relate to the play on a different level.
